The Story

Halcyon Closed 3.3’ SMB

The Halcyon Closed 3’ SMB (Surface Marker Buoy) serves as a reliable, 1m long alert marker in highly visible orange.

This closed-circuit SMB lacks an open bottom; consequently, divers inflate it using an inflator hose connected through the fitted one-way valve.

An integrated pressure-relief valve is built into the design, specifically allowing for safe deployment from significant depths. This feature ensures maximum safety and operational efficiency during ascent.

Safety, Visibility, and Portability

Halcyon SMBs consistently provide maximum visibility and redundant flotation, which actively support diving safety and grant peace of mind.

When completely deflated, this marker conveniently fits into a pocket or the backplate Halcyon MC Storage Pak, optimising portability.

However, please note that due to its compact dimensions, we do not recommend the 3’ SMB as a primary marker for UK boat or shore diving. You should consider larger Halcyon models for primary use in those conditions.

Halcyon's primary SMBs that are acceptable to most UK dive skippers include:

Closed 3.3’ SMB Key Features

  • 200 denier nylon
  • Lift capacity 2.7kg
  • Length: 3.3’ (1m)
  • Integrated OPV allowing safe deployment from depth
  • Halcyon's No-Lock® connector for easy inflation
  • Easily inflated at depth
  • When deflated, fits in a pocket or backplate MC Storage Pak
  • Marked with Coast Guard approved SOLAS reflective tape
  • Lifetime Warranty on RF-welded seams

What’s the best SMB?

This is a question we often receive in-store, where it’s easy to showcase and demonstrate the various types of SMBs alongside the numerous reels we have in stock.

However, with so many listed online, it’s not always straightforward to determine which SMB will best meet your needs.

While we recognise that everyone has their unique configurations and requirements, This Article aims to assist you in making your decision.
